As a stem cell donor, you can save a life! For a As a stem cell donor, you can save a life! For a patient with leukemia or another form of blood cancer, a stem cell transplant is often the only chance of a cure. Unfortunately, a patient cannot receive stem cells from just anyone. The tissue typing (HLA) of the donor must match that of the patient as closely as possible. Regrettably, the chances of such a match are very small. Even within ones own family, there is only a 30% chance of finding a suitable donor. A patient is therefore mostly dependent on an unknown donor from the worldwide registry of potential stem cell donors. Currently, there are 41 million people worldwide registered as stem cell donors, around 415.000 of whom are in the Netherlands. But this number still does not provide a suitable donor for every patient. Want to learn more about this topic and what you can do to help? We will go skating from 21:30 to ~23:30, of course with the possibility for some drinks at the rink after 🍻. This new group of 1st and 2nd year students will be organising next year’s (super fun) introduction weekend for us all (including the new students starting in September!). Until then, we will keep the excitement going with many fun social activities you don’t want to miss! Stay tuned for the next one, which might be sooner than you think😉 A little hint about what’s next: 🍄🏎….Ok, maybe we made it too obvious, but you might want to brush up your technique because things WILL get competitive!💪
After organising the first BiBC weekend ever, as w After organising the first BiBC weekend ever, as well the organisation of the BBQ last year, we say goodbye to the current formation of TranslocaCie! We are certainly gonna miss Ron’s secretary skills and all the great work that Cecile did for acquisition ❤️ But no worries, for this academic year, a whole bunch of BiBC students will be joining Jasper and Famke, in the organisation of next years weekend and other fun social activities. And on top of that, Madelon and Floor will become part of the brand new career committee! So stay tuned for any updates! 👀
