Meet Jan Paul, external relations officer of the 2nd In Silico Board:

I am Jan Paul and a second-year BiBC student at Utrecht University with a Bachelor’s background in Molecular Life Sciences. Last year, I was part of the ConneCie committee, where I served as the Acquisition member. In this role, I gained valuable experience in connecting with companies and securing collaborations for our association. Outside of my studies, I enjoy board games, gaming, Dungeons & Dragons, delving into history and reading.

I’m Felix, I did my Bachelor’s program here in Utrecht, and have just started my first year Bioinformatics and Biocomplexity master. Some of my hobbies are Cooking, Sailing, photography and some other stuff that you will have to ask me personally ;). Furthermore I have participated in multiple committees for U.S. Histos which is a student sailing associations here in Utrecht.

Hi, I’m Anne ten Vergert, currently in my second year of the BiBC master’s program at Utrecht University, where I also completed my bachelor’s in Biology. Last year, I was part of the Connecie, organizing education and career events. This year, I’m excited to take on the chairmanship of In Silico. Outside of academics, I enjoy artistic swimming, film music, and spending time with family, friends, and creative hobbies like gardening and drawing/painting.

As a stem cell donor, you can save a life!

For a patient with leukemia or another form of blood cancer, a stem cell transplant is often the
only chance of a cure. Unfortunately, a patient cannot receive stem cells from just anyone. The
tissue typing (HLA) of the donor must match that of the patient as closely as possible. Regrettably,
the chances of such a match are very small. Even within ones own family, there is only a 30%
chance of finding a suitable donor.
A patient is therefore mostly dependent on an unknown donor from the worldwide registry of
potential stem cell donors. Currently, there are 41 million people worldwide registered as stem
cell donors, around 415.000 of whom are in the Netherlands. But this number still does not
provide a suitable donor for every patient.

We would like to invite you all for this years BIBC end of year BBQ 🥓 To celebrate the end of the academic year, we will be grilling on Friday the 28th of June, at the barbecues of the Cambridgelaan on campus 😋 We’ll light the fires from 17:15 onwards, but you are of course more then welcome to join us for a drink before that!

Of course, we will also have vegetarian and vegan options. To help us keep track, please register via the link in the bio. Participation will costs €5,- for non-InSilico members, but is free for members (this is your time become a member if you aren’t already 👀)!

The masters Bioinformatics & Biocomplexity, Environmental Biology, Toxicology & Environmental Health, and Neuroscience & Cognition have joined forces to create the first Life Science Master Games 🤩 It will be a friendly competition between masters with fun and active games. Team up with your co-students and fight for the title of best Life Science Master 🏆!

The games will take place on Wednesday the 15th of May 2024 in the Wilhelminapark, Utrecht. You are welcome from 17:00 (games will start at 17:30). The games and drinks are free! 🍷🍻
For everyone who wants to stay and eat something, there will be pizza 🍕, which can be ordered via us as well. More info in the sign up form! (Link in bio)😉

❄️⛸️Get your skates on, *TRANSLOCACIE IS GOING ICE-SKATING* ⛸️❄️!! On the 21st of February you can join us for some laps on the ice hosted by U.S.S.V Softijs. We will go skating from 21:30 to ~23:30, of course with the possibility for some drinks at the rink after 🍻. Don’t worry if you cannot bring your own (racing) skates, these can be borrowed at the rink (though availability is limited and we need to know by February 13th so register quickly, link in bio! 😉). Participation will cost €5,-.

This new group of 1st and 2nd year students will be organising next year’s (super fun) introduction weekend for us all (including the new students starting in September!). Until then, we will keep the excitement going with many fun social activities you don’t want to miss! Stay tuned for the next one, which might be sooner than you think😉
